BPUK Newsletter Q2 2024
Coming shortly
As Bitcoin goes mainstream, BPUK and the UK Bitcoiners we represent want to be able to speak with one voice to educate and explain to policymakers why embracing Bitcoin will be good for the environment, good for the economy, and good for UK society.
That’s why we are completely redesigning our website to reflect our new focus—a membership organisation that represents the views of UK individuals and businesses.
This is reflected in our new logo, moving upwards and to the right and becoming more orange.
As we went through this process, we realised that other countries would be thinking along the same lines.
So why not create a website where each country could focus on the news and issues that are relevant to them and share the same technical infrastructure and international content?
That would save everyone time and SATS. After all, Bitcoin is global and local.
So, we did.
The new design will enable any country to spin up its website in hours rather than months. They will have access to powerful features such as membership and lightning payments at a fraction of the cost and complexity of building their own website from scratch.
Each country will have full editorial control of its own content and domain name and will not have to hire a technical team to create and manage the site. Of course, the new platform will be highly secure.
The result? This isn’t just a common brand; it’s a movement, with each country reinforcing the remainder.
The first country to come on board is Australia.
If you are thinking about creating a Bitcoin Policy for your country, contact bill@bitcoinpolicy.uk. But don’t dither—our platform can’t host every country.
What BPUK has been up to:
Policy:
Joint Event with the Human Rights Foundation:
We kicked off the quarter at an event hosted by the Thomson Reuters Foundation, which we organised in collaboration with the Human Rights Foundation. Guests were able to hear from an incredible roster of activists, freedom fighters, and builders from across the world, all with a common theme - how Bitcoin was enabling them to achieve their goals and to continue their work.
Freddie and Susie at Thomson Reuters.
Following the event, we circulated a summary of the speaker list and the topics they discussed with certain of the Crypto APPG members, and to CryptoUK - although Chatham House Rules prevented us from giving full details. The humanitarian potential of Bitcoin as a censorship-resistant money is poorly understood in these circles and we are duty bound to change this.
Letter Writing Campaign ahead of July’s election:
After the general election announcement, we prepared and released a template letter for UK citizens to send to their local candidates, highlighting the interests of constituents in Bitcoin and requesting the support of potential MPs in pushing for sensible and supportive Bitcoin policies.

We’re also continuing to push back on inaccurate reporting in the media and on Twitter/X, besides working on two detailed policy papers, on mining & energy and in relation to nation state adoption, that we will release in Q3.
If you wish to help the Policy team, make sure to retweet our responses on Twitter or help with our Parliament Geyser project.
Mining and Sustainability
We are currently assessing several promising mining projects and exploring new opportunities in research and development. While much of our work involves sensitive details covered under non-disclosure agreements, we are thrilled about the progress we are making. Here is what we can share.
A very big thank you to Nolle Engineering!
Nolle Engineering (@nollengineering) were generous enough to offer us some S9 cloaks in order to convert some of our S9 miners into space heaters. Quite apart from offering them our heartfelt thanks, we’re excited about the potential to explore using miners as heaters, to mitigate heating costs, and potentially doing so in conjunction with our Next Gen educational efforts.
Since the launch of the Mining and Sustainability Geyser fund, we've had the privilege of engaging with some of the most innovative minds in the Bitcoin mining sector. Whilst funds have not yet been allocated, we're optimistic about sharing some further developments as soon as they're finalised.
You can donate to our fund here.
